Projects 2018

DTU students have developed solutions to make Roskilde Festival an even better experience. In 2018 the projects focused on renewabilty, food waste, safety and accessibility for people with disabilities.

Since its beginning in 1971 Roskilde Festival has expanded greatly and each year new initiatives are created at the festival. This means that the festival faces new logistical and planning challenges that require creative and efficient problem solving.
For the 9th year in a row a team of engineering students from DTU participated in making Roskilde Festival a more enjoyable and green experience. Renewable energy from transportable windmills, planning of the festivals deposit-refund can system and biodegradable sleeping pads made of mushrooms were just some of the projects the students brought to and implemented at Roskilde Festival 2018.

Several of the projects in 2018 focused on creating more security and safety at the festival. A group worked together with the isolation company, Rockwool, to create temporary anti-terrorism barricades which were integrated as benches and common areas for the festival goers. Another group developed a mini-alarm for the guests private stuff and a third group worked on implementing internet of things (IoT) for tracking Roskilde Festivals technical gear.

Some of the projects were also part of the festival in 2017 and came back in 2018 with an improved design. One of those were the transportable festival lantern, GLØD, that sold an impressive amount of units at the festival in both 2017 and 2018.

The collaboration between Roskilde Festival and DTU is rewarding for both sides. While contributing to an enhanced festival experience, DTU students also have a unique possibility to test their products in a highly dynamic and demanding environment.
